Don't Suspend the Damn Gas Tax!

May 2, 2008 1:54 PM

I'm shocked — shocked! — that McCain and Clinton want to repeal the gas tax for the summer. This is simply the worst kind of political pandering — some truly shameful shit. Both candidates, who purport to be environmentalists, should be talking about how they plan to end our dependence on foreign oil, but instead they offer a summer vacation from reality. This repeal is like offering a junkie a set works and a couple of bags of dope before they try and go cold turkey. Moreover, the repeal would save the average consumer only about $30.00 dollars. This is pure bull and Obama should get credit for refusing to pander but his principled stand has been drowned out by the sound of the inane Rev. Wright show.

If they were not just blowing smoke, I'd say repeal the ENTIRE gas tax all together. Why just for the summer? What are we gonna do in September when it jumps back up $3.50 a gallon AND the price has gone up all summer long. $5 a gallon on Sept 1st?

How about a governement that SPENDS LESS and is SMART with OUR money? Then we could just not have a gas tax at all.

One other thing, the reason the US has not moved to smaller and more energy efficent cars is that the public does not SHAME drivers of big SUVs (ok Ed Bagley Jr, but he is but one man).

I don't want government intervention (into anything) but the good old PEOPLE of the USA could make giant SUV owning like smoking, polygamy, sex with a minor or telling an AIDS joke.

oh federal government, at it again eh? | May 2, 2008 2:13 PM

I've lost the ability to be furious with our government long ago. Probably a defense mechanism to keep me from having a heart attack before I'm 30. Now all I can do is laugh at the lies and manipulations our government(and their pr devision called MSM) try to shove down our throats.

It's fun to laugh at the speeches they make. Making a side by side comparison to what they say and what they do is even better. That way, its easy to see how hollow even the nicest speech these souless husks make really is.

I'd throw up, but I couldn't afford breakfast this morning. Hows that payoff from the ethanol lobby treating you candidates? I'm sure glad my tax money is paying for such a deserving industry.
