Unlike a certain coworker, I didn't get all teary-eyed when Christian Siriano won on Project Runway last night. (Stay strong, Andy Greene!) But I did watch, and when that crazy little genius won, it made me think – specifically, it made me think about what I could get for all that prize money. One thing you might want – if you aren't interested in, say, real estate – is sitting in our editorial conference room right now. A publicist who handles super-high-end audio equipment installed a $40,000 stereo yesterday for us to test for the next three months.
The speakers are Thiel CS3.7's. They're around four feet high and cost $10,000 for the pair. Even
though they're totally giant, they came with a matching subwoofer. Sweet! Each speaker has its own massive 1,000 watt amplifier at $12,000 a piece. The CD player is another two grand, and is made out of some kind of metal. Maybe aluminum? The remote is made out of the same stuff. It requires a screwdriver to change the batteries, and is heavy enough that you really wouldn't want to drop it on your foot if you were wearing flip-flops. It also looks like it was made by (or for) the military.
So did it blow my hair back like that old Maxell ad when I fired it up? Is any stereo in the world worth as much as a Lexus? Check in tomorrow for Part Two. And if you have any tips for albums that might sound especially mindblowing through this thing, leave them in comments.

Please, for me play "Goliath" from the newest Mars Volta. Second choice would be "Disraeli Gears" all the way through. Enjoy.
