A "Hallelujah" for "American Idol"

Did anyone else find it sort of cool and odd that not only did a Leonard Cohen song get performed on American Idol last night, but that judges Randy and Simon actually knew the song? Do these people secretly have taste?

Just because they knew what it was doesn't mean they actually have Taste. What do you want to bet they all just thought, "Hey, this is that cool song from 'Shrek'"?

I think they probably have ear pieces that tell them the artist. Last year they looked like idiots when they thought a 12 year old 311 song was new, and they didn't even know who 311 was.

Stroll in past the neon glow of any local bar and you'll find more musical talent than Idol claims to find.

I agree with your larger point, but it's better than rewarmed versions of Andy Gibb songs.

I was certain that song wasn't from the '80s; it has a timelessness that makes it sound much, much older. That being said, I was sort of disappointed with the dreadlocked doofus' version of it, as it was pretty much just an impression of the Jeff Buckley rendition.
