Glasvegas Douse Nirvana's "Come As You Are" in Fuzzy Drone on New Cover

January 14, 2009 4:09 PM

Scottish band to watch Glasvegas know how to drone, and they do it well on this new cover of Nirvana's "Come As You Are." If you've ever wanted to hear the Nevermind track on 'ludes, now is your chance: the quartet slow the tempo without sacrificing the song's drama, amping up the reverb without losing their guitars in mush. Hear My Brightest Diamond's "Tainted Love" Cover From "Guilt by Association Vol. 2"

January 8, 2009 1:05 PM

The Breaking Blog doesn't believe in guilty pleasures — if you like something, you like it, and that's that. (We make no apologizes for our T'Pau love here.) But the folks behind the Guilt by Association album series have found a way to mine the concept for greatness — or at least a few interesting albums. Volume 2 brings together a bunch of artists you may not have heard of yet covering songs you're likely very well acquainted with: RS Breaking artist My Brightest Diamond handles Soft Cell's oft-covered "Tainted Love" (download it below!), the Forms tackle Billy Joel's wordy "We Didn't Start the Fire," Takka Takka take a crack at Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight." On the more contemporary front, Max Vernon covers Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" and Matt Pond PA mellow out My Chemical Romance's "I'm Not Okay." (Full track list after the jump).

Download Bell X1's New "How Your Heart Is Wired"

December 30, 2008 2:25 PM

Irish rockers Bell X1 will return March 3rd with Blue Lights on the Runway, the follow-up to this year's Flock. Singer-guitarist Paul Noonan said the group started recording the new disc last November in a "big, draughty, stately home called Ballycumber House, under the beady gaze of musty portraits of the Lords and Ladies of the estate from the 15th century. We wanted to make something different, something tight and coherent from start to finish. Where we've landed is a little bit electronic, a little bit Bacharach, a little bit New Orleans Funeral March."

Judge for yourself here, with a free download of a band-new Runway track:

For more Goldfrapp, check out the band chatting about the album here. As Alison Goldfrapp told us of the record's name, "I had a dream about a very large tree. There was beautiful sunshine, and the tree was waving in the wind and said it should be called it the 'Seventh Tree.' And you can't argue with a dream."
