Album Reviews
Sometimes it pays to avoid the spotlight. While Lloyd Banks shouldered the burden of being G Unit's next idol-in-the-making, new addition Young Buck was quietly crafting the crew's best album since 50's debut. Straight Outta Cashville is crime rap par excellence -- unrepentantly grimy lyrics backed by soulful production. On "Shorty Wanna Ride," producer Lil Jon reveals his Zapp fetish. Offbeat samples (Nancy Sinatra on "Bang Bang") and the breathy vocals in "Thou Shall" give the album classy heft. But Buck is the boss here. In the company of top guests such as Ludacris ("Stomp"), Lil'
Flip and David Banner ("Welcome to the South"), Buck shows that he's talented enough to run his own crew.
