Yellowcard will follow their 2003 platinum-selling album, Ocean Avenue, with the release of their fifth effort, Lights and Sounds, on January 24th.

The Southern California emo quintet spent the better part of two years touring Ocean Avenue before crossing the country again to write the songs for Lights in New York. "New York in the winter . . . brought out some darker places in us," frontman Ryan Key told Rolling Stone at the time. "And that's not in a 'now I'm going to start wearing eyeliner' kind of way, but emotionally darker."

Yellowcard's darker side has filtered into the new tune "Two Weeks from Twenty." "It's this jazz-lounge anti-war song. You're listening to this super-smooth, jazzy groove, but we're talking about something that means a lot to us -- and that's really cool," Key said. "It's more intense subject matter than we've ever tried to tackle."

Another departure for the band is the title track, which will appear on the Electronic Arts Burnout Revenge video game in-game soundtrack, due in stores today. Fans can also stream the song at yellowcardrock.com.

The band is currently playing shows in Canada -- on what they have dubbed the Wish We Were Canadian tour -- and will kick off their U.S. dates on October 24th.
