Album Reviews
On the third album from this Cincinnati quartet, frontpersons and real-life couple Lisa Walker and Chuck Cleaver turn in pained, mega-tuneful songs that can get under your skin something fierce. The album focuses on a crumbling relationship, complete with accusations of cheating and warbled apologies. Jangly guitars adorn the loosely rocking tunes, and the raw, upper-register voices effuse a touch of rural weirdness on cuts like "Dreadful Sorry" and "Happiness Bleeds," where former Ass Pony Cleaver drinks booze from a jar, pukes, then questions the meaning of life. Wussy's lyrics are sad, but its very memorable music never wallows in despair.
