Widespread Cancelation

Widespread Panic canceled its spot on this summer's H.O.R.D.E. An official release from Capricorn Records stated that the reason the band pulled out was due to the organizers' inability "to honor agreements with the band relating to concert lineup and appearance times." Those who will lose out most, according to the release, are Widespread Panic's fans. "As a band that has based its entire career on forging extraordinarily close bonds with its fans, withdrawing from a tour would be unthinkable under anything but the most drastic of conditions." WSP played the first H.O.R.D.E. in 1991 as well as appearing on the 1992 lineup.

A statement from Force, publicists for H.O.R.D.E., outlined that the idea behind H.O.R.D.E. is more about the music and a good vibe than big egos. It stated that the H.O.R.D.E. people were really eager to have WSP on board again, but that egos may have gotten in the way in regard to scheduling. Neil Young was even willing to give up his headlining spot to let Panic close the festival in Atlanta, their home turf. "The H.O.R.D.E. philosophy has always been one of working together and being a part of a bigger musical goal," said Marsha Vlasic, the booking agent for H.O.R.D.E. (AB)
