names support acts

Widespread Panic will kick off their summer tour toward the end of May -- and they won't be alone.|

Although not all the dates have been firmed up, most of the tour's support acts have been solidified. Going along for the ride -- which is tentatively titled "Travelin' Light," based on the first single from Panic's forthcoming live album, Light Fuse ... Getaway -- will be moe., G Love & Special Sauce and the Greyboy Allstars, according to Buck Williams, Panic's manager.

The tour is scheduled to begin on May 27 in Phoenix. During its first two weeks, the tour will hit venues all over the West Coast, including the Gorge in George, Wash. There are still holes in the tour's schedule, but dates will most likely run through the end of July.

Williams is careful not to pigeonhole this tour into the ever-growing market of summer festivals. "We're not really calling it a festival," Williams told JAMTV on Monday. "It's more of a musical day where each band can play at least an hour."

Because he feels ticket prices in general are too high, Williams wants to keep prices on the lower end. "There's no such thing as more bang for your buck. Kids want to see what kids want to see," he said. Ticket prices are generally going to fall in the $20 to $22 range, but in some markets the price will go up to $25, although never higher than that, Williams said.

Williams and Panic are still trying to nail down some other bands for different markets along the tour, but at press time, none had been confirmed. (Ari Bendersky)
