While Mariah Carey doesn't think this is a greatest hits album, it actually is! She has enough of them to make a full album. If it's not, then why call it #1's?
The greatest hits album starts with 3 bonuses. Starting with the addictive "SweetHeart," you'll think Mariah was already a pop diva but as she grows, the innocence is wearing away. "When you Believe", a duet with Whitney Housten, starts off very cliche' but as the song ends, you'll think you were hearing a kids album. It's a very nice song, don't get me wrong. It's just that Mariah and Whitney sound so calm that their vocals aren't even impressive. There is a song on BUTTERFLY that was called "Whenever you Call", which was, in my opinion, the best track on that album. On #1's, Mariah changes the song with additional vocals by Brian McKnight. It's a beautiful song and it actually revives the clicheness in both "SweetHeart" and "When you Believe."
After those three bonuses, you go through memory lane. Starting with the latest #1 hit to the ever first #1 hit she's ever gotten. It goes "My All, Honey, Always be my Baby" and so on. Once at the end of the album, you'll hear the latest ballad by Mariah Carey called "I Still Believe." It's so beautiful that you'll think you were hearing a ballad that supposed to be fit inot MUSIC BOX. Although, the ballad fits perfectly on #1's and it's definately worth listening to.
Although #1's is a delight to listen to, it cannot change how cliche' the bonuses sound. It should be bought though.
