Brian Wilson will take his lost masterwork Smile out on the road this fall for a twenty-two-date tour to launch September 30th in Minneapolis.

The tour comes in support of Wilson's new recording of the 1966 album that never was. As on the new Smile, due September 28th on Nonesuch, Wilson will be backed on tour by a ten-piece band along with the Stockholm Strings and a brass octet.

Wilson hatched the ambitious album with lyricist/arranger Van Dyke Parks almost four decades ago, with plans to create a lush, orchestral follow-up to the Beach Boys' classic Pet Sounds. He abandoned the record when some of its songs were met unenthusiastically by his Beach Boys bandmates. Though some of the songs -- including "Heroes and Villains" "Cabinessence" and "Surf's Up" -- would appear on subsequent Beach Boys records, Smile as Wilson envisioned it was never released.

In addition to playing Smile, Wilson and his touring entourage will perform other gems from the Beach Boys catalog as well as cuts from his June release Getting' in Over My Head.
