In the Nineties, Knight ran hip-hop's Death Row Records, whose stable of artists included Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur, and also kept a number of Bloods gang members on his payroll. The family of rival East Coast rapper Notorious B.I.G. has accused Knight of being involved in B.I.G.'s fatal drive-by shooting. The label head spent five years in prison for a gang-related attack in Las Vegas in 1996.
Knight is recovering in a Miami hospital. There are currently no leads in the investigation into his shooting.
