Trey Anastasio of Phish's previous solo projects explored spicy beats, but this album is sexy in a different way. Seis de Mayo is a mix of new originals and old Phish songs done with classical instrumentation, skipping persuasively from Dixieland ("Coming To") to string quartet ("All Things Reconsidered") to way-ambitious orchestral ("Guyute") to tony dinner music ("Andre the Giant"). Inevitably, Anastasio sounds like a serious fan of the Kronos Quartet here. But he also sounds like a guy who thinks composition is, you know, hot.
