Live at Union Chapel, London, England
2006
You could go broke and mad navigating the many live releases from the Texas Dylan's final years. But in this 1994 show, on two CDs, the highs -- the loner's yearning in "If I Needed You"; the detailed warfare of the card game in "Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold"; the gripping darkness in "The Hole" -- far outnumber the strained notes. And you can't help admiring the poetry he tries to wring from "The Shrimp Song," a slice of idiocy from the Elvis Presley movie Girls, Girls, Girls -- and laughing along as he finally gives up.
