(NEW YORK) - Toad The Wet Sprocket, which made a name for itself as a band with a penchant for acoustic-oriented pop hooks, has shifted away from the middle of the road on its latest album, Coil, due May 20 on Columbia. Lead singer/songwriter Glen Phillips admits that he and his bandmates are "less meek" on the set and quips that one song, the rock track "Desire" is "crotch-driven." The Santa Barbara, Calif.-based act has hit a home run at AC and top 40 with "Walk On The Ocean" and "All I Want," both from its 1991 album Fear, even though the group originally found airplay with alternative programmers.
