Wallflowers, Jayhawks Help Open Memphis Hard Rock

The Wallflowers and the Jayhawks helped raise $30,000 for charity at the opening of Memphis' first Hard Rock CafT.|

The two groups were among a number of musicians that played at the grand opening party for the city's new theme restaurant. The party doubled as a benefit to help raise funds for the Memphis community. Proceeds will benefit the National Civil Rights Museum and the Memphis chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Both organizations plan to use the funds for educational enhancement and outreach programs.

Thousands gathered outside the new Hard Rock, where the outdoor concert took place. The evening began with a set from local group the North Mississippi All-Stars. The Jayhawks followed with a more mainstream country-rock sound, and the Grammy-nominated Wallflowers closed the show. (Julie Hauselman)
