Album Reviews
More than four years after they released their buzzed-over Pawn Shoppe Heart, these Detroit rockers emerge with an album that's pop-friendly but raucous enough to park in a Motor City garage. Love, Hate and Then There's You finds singer Jason Stollsteimer delivering both dark laments and sugar-specked stuff, sometimes in the same song: On the propulsive "She's Dead to Me," Stollsteimer employs a modified blues wail that sounds a bit like his ex-buddy Jack White, while the highly likable Cheap Trick update "21st Birthday" gives you both manicured guitar grooves and shout-along choruses. The Bondies' songwriting craft might just earn them some new fans.
