Album Reviews
Where the Stills' 2003 debut earned the young Montreal group comparisons to moody British New Wave icons such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Without Feathers evokes lighter, more up-to-date Brits like Keane and Coldplay. The first album's layered guitars and propulsive drums are downplayed in favor of prominent vocals and less compelling arrangements -- the middling tempos of plodding tracks like "Halo the Harpoons" and "It Takes Time" underscore the new lineup's shortcomings.
