The Specials Making A Comeback

Posted Sep 26, 1997 12:00 AM

(NEW YORK) - Ska pioneers the Specials have signed to Way Cool Music/MCA and will release a new album in early 1998, with a single to be released in October 1997.| Original members Neville Staples, Lynval Golding, Roddy Radiation and Horace Panter will be featured on the new effort, along with a crew of others that include former Selecter drummer Aitch Bembridge. The band plans to tour the U.S. following the set's release. The Specials, who mixed socio-political commentary, punk attitude, and rambunctious rhythms, have been cited as an influence by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger and Rancid, among others. The act is best known for its work on England's 2-Tone label, which jump-started Britain's second wave of ska in the late '70s/early '80s.
