The Redwalls are four shaggy-haired boys from the Chicago suburbs whose version of mid-Sixties Brit rock is so spot-on it's tiresome. Their second album mixes junkyard riffs, busy horn arrangements and cracked-throat garage wailing from singer Logan Baren. Barnburners like "Rock and Roll" show true bar-rocking abandon, but anyone who's had his fill of retro might need a six-pack to get much out of them. Organ-tinged comedowns such as "Build a Bridge" feel like token changes of pace. The Redwalls sound like a precocious live band with their shit together, but if they want to hit it big in the trash-rock game they'll need to channel their energy into songs as well-tailored as their mod suits.

whilst I agree with much of what the reviewer asserts I find
myself sympathetic for fans of the Beatles, Faces, Stones,
Band, Byrds etc who will veer clear of this offering because of
it. The album may sound all too familliar and the songs sound
like something you've heard before, but the fact that you'll be
whistling them down the street, having passers by also
wondering, "where have I heard that before?" surely speaks a
testament to the band and their music. Whilst it is nice to hear
fresh new music it's also comforting to hear something
formulaic that STILL works. there's a reason nobody has
forgotten the Beatles...the Redwalls remind us of that. I say
leave forward thinking music to Radiohead and let the
redwalls get on with something they're VERY good at that we
wish Lennon and McCartney or Dylan and the Band were still
capable of today.
