Techno gurus Prodigy have been catching flak for their new video, "Smack My Bitch Up." Now, thanks to JAMTV, you can watch the controversial video and decide for yourself if all the hype is warranted.| (To view the video, click on the banner on JAMTV's homepage.)

The song, which appears on Prodigy's multiplatinum album Fat Of The Land, has drawn the ire of groups like the National Organization for Women (NOW) as well as factions in England's Parliament, who claim that the song is disrespectful and degrading to women. Prodigy's Liam Howlett, however, sees things differently.

In a statement issued by the band's publicist, Formula PR, Howlett explains that the lyrics "change my pitch up/smack my bitch up," which were sampled from the Ultramagnetic MCs' "Give The Drummer Some," is about getting really involved in something. "We refer [to] 'Smack My Bitch Up' as a phrase used to [describe] doing anything intensely," Howlett said. "Like being on stage and going for extreme manic energy -- you could say, 'We were smacking the bitch up.'" (Ari Bendersky)
