(ROTTERDAM) - Prodigy was the big winner at the fourth MTV Europe MusicAwards, held last night in Rotterdam. The band won for best alternative act, best dance act (for the second consecutive year), and best video.|

Hanson took awards for best breakthrough act and best song ("Mmmbop"). Other winners included Jon Bon Jovi for best male artist; Janet Jackson, female; Spice Girls, group; Oasis, rock act; and Will Smith, rap act.

The awards show went through a couple of changes this year. MTV Europe president/CEO Brent Hansen says, "We tightened the program to two hours, cut advertising breaks down to a minimum, and integrated a real live audience of 2,000 fans to provide the right kind of buzz. Our aim is to produce an upbeat pop show, not just a documentary of an awards ceremony."
