Album Reviews
Kimbrough, who died in 1998, knew how to pitch a wang dang doodle. Long before he began making backwoods-boogie records at sixty-two, he ran a famous Mississippi juke joint. This salute is more of that Saturday-night fever: white bucks such as the Black Keys and the Fiery Furnaces toasting the raw honesty and hearty party that distinguished Kimbrough as a singer and host.
