Album Reviews
The Fleshtones kept the garage rock torch alight in the Eighties, but their last few CDs lacked the shamanistic power of their earlier work. Do You Swing?, recorded with Southern Culture on the Skids' Rick Miller, marks the quartet's triumphant return to form, complete with twangy tremolo guitars, wailing keyboards and frontman Peter Zaremba's maracas and harmonica. The gritty "Double Dipper" sounds like a twenty-first century "Louie Louie," while the simple, exuberant "One Four Five" is a garage rock how-to. But the album's centerpiece, the confident "I'm Back Again," really says it all.
