Eric Hedford, drummer for the Dandy Warhols, has left the band, citing creative differences.|

Hedford announced he wants to focus his attention and skills on his side project, the dance-based DJ Aquaman. A spokeswoman from Monqui Management told JAMTV on Tuesday that Hedford was a DJ even before joining up with the Dandys. "I've known him for three years and he's been doing it since at least then," she said. "He's well respected around Portland (Ore.) and has a steady spinning gig on Saturday nights at a club here called Soft Box." She also told us although Hedford does a lot of mixing at his home studio, he currently has no plans to release an album as DJ Aquaman.

The Dandy Warhols have not yet named a replacement for Hedford, but did say in a press release that Brent DeBoer, a drummer and longtime friend of Dandy frontman Courtney Taylor, would join the band on the road when they tour Europe starting April 18. That tour, which is in support of the band's 1997 Capitol Records release, ...The Dandy Warhols Come Down, will run through the end of May.

In related news, the Dandy Warhols' song "Pete International Airport" can be heard as the background in a Nike commercial featuring San Antonio Spur David Robinson. A spokesman for Nike told us the 30-second spot is part of an eight-week campaign that also features material by Faust ("Hurricane"), the Lilys ("Pookah"), Milford Graves ("Babi") and Penguine Cafe Orchestra ("Perpetuum Mobile").
