Biography

Emerging out of the Washington, DC, area, the Clovers were the most successful R&B group of the '50s. They were an important force in the fusion of big-beat R&B with gospel-style vocals, which laid the groundwork for soul music a decade later. With the Top 30 success of "Love, Love, Love" in 1956, the Clovers became one of the first black vocal groups to arrive on the pop chart.
