Album Reviews
Through the Eighties, Factory Records, based in Manchester, England, inspired obsessive collectors with an exotic roster, elaborate packaging and its own nightclub, the Ecstasy-fueled Hacienda, around which director Michael Winterbottom's film centers. This soundtrack to the rave-pioneering "Madchester" scene isn't likely to ignite such obsession, but it works well as a very basic introduction to Factory's better-known groups: Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays.
