Norman "Fatboy Slim" Cook is a DJ whose best tracks ("Praise You," "Rockafeller Skank") always sounded like dusty singles. So this "lost album" by a fictional group — essentially Cook and a crew of vocalists — is a great idea. The beats are dandy, tweaked-up period pieces from Sixties ska to Eighties R&B. But song albums, as opposed to DJ mixes, need good songs. Last year's killer single "Toe Jam," with David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal? Check. Iggy Pop covering the Monochrome Set's "He's Frank"? Check. Some oddball blathering about shepherd's pie and toads over dance-rock twitching ("Jumps the Fence")? Check, please.
