Album Reviews
Power-piano trio and cover-version imps the Bad Plus deserve to be better known for the romantic detail and addictive gallop of their originals. Bassist Reid Anderson shines here with the soft, circular staircase of "Prehensile Dream"; drummer David King lets the rock out in "Anthem for the Earnest." In a tribute to the late Elvin Jones, "O.G. (Original Gentleman)," pianist Ethan Iverson mines luxuriant mourning with ivory fisticuffs: McCoy Tyner as avenging gangsta.
