Think Bananarama meet TV on the Radio: Telepathe are two Brooklyn girls whose arty sound is a synthesis of buzzy electronica, shaky–voiced synth pop and even a little indie rap, abetted by TVOTR producer Dave Sitek. Dance Mother packs some tricked–out grooves — the stutter–step beat of "In Your Line" is built on hypnotic synths and tumbling, TVOTR-worthy drums, and the singsong rapping on "Chrome's on It" is kinda catchy. But songs like the plodding "Lights Go Down" just feel undercooked. Telepathe could learn from the jump that TV on the Radio made between albums One and Two: more focus and more effort, please.
