Electronic Realizations for Rock Orchestra

RS: Not Rated

Larry Fast wrote, performed, arranged and otherwise concocted this electronic music extravaganza, employing nothing but a minimoog, a mellotron, sundry phase shifters and other sonic-alteration devices. The result is most readily comparable to Tangerine Dream's fine Phaedra in terms of content and intent—free-form musical meandering loosely grouped under a single sonic theme. If you've heard LPs of this sort before, you will hear nothing new here. My main complaint with this one is that the range of moods is much too narrow—a direct result of the relative absence of the mellotron.

One technical fact should be noted, though—this album was recorded using the Sansui QS four-channel quad system; I listened to it on a Sansui four-channel system with four-channel headphones and the overall sonic effect was stunning. (RS 193)
