Sweetback are an offshoot of Sade's backing band, and is full of baby-making balladry, acid-jazz grooves and Massive Attack-style dub majesty. Guest vocalist Chocolate Genius shows what a dusted Tom Waits-D'Angelo love child might sound like on "Voodoo Breath," and chanteuse Aya's seductive coo on songs such as "Lover" make Stage [2] a satisfying stopgap between Sade albums.
