Album Reviews

On their seventh album, Welsh art-rock outfit Super Furry Animals embrace the seeming randomness of popular culture: Picking up where "Hello Sunshine," the highlight of 2003's Phantom Power, left off, Love Kraft emphasizes contemplative beauty over the manic propulsion of the band's early work. Nearly every member writes and sings, and Sean O'Hagan of the High Llamas and Beastie Boys associate Mario Caldato Jr. help them reference the Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, the Beatles and others on studio marvels like the mournful opening track, "Zoom!," and the optimistic closing cut, "Cabin Fever." There's more love in the Furries' craft than ever.
