(LOS ANGELES) - George Michael made a surprise
appearance at the fourth annual VH1 Honors benefit
concert at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheatre, joining
Stevie Wonder for a show-stopping rendition of
Wonder's classic "Living for the City."' The VH1 Honors, an annual
charity concert, sported an eclectic group of musicians gathered to
benefit music education programs in public schools across the
country through the channel's Save the Music
initiative. Thursday's show raised more than $150,000. Wonder also
performed his "Higher Ground" with Steve Winwood,
who in turn played with nearly everyone onstage. Winwood was joined
by Chaka Khan for a take on his "Higher Love" then
played with James Taylor, Levon Helm and
Sheryl Crow on "Back in the High Life." Helm and
the crew then delivered an upbeat version of the
Band classic "The Weight." The top drawer of the
evening was the Artist (Prince) who performed his
latest "Holy River," and then teased the crowd later with a snippet
of his trademark "Raspberry Beret." Other performers included the
Wallflowers, featuring Jakob
Dylan, and Crow dueting with Emmylou
Harris on "Pale Blue Eyes."
