ATP New York Postponed

First East Coast edition of festival in jeopardy

Less than a month after All Tomorrow's Parties Los Angeles was postponed, the festival's inaugural East Coast edition is off until at least 2004. ATP New York, to be curated by Stephen Malkmus, was slated to take place at in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in September but hadn't yet announced a lineup.

According to a note from organizers posted on the festival's official Web site, the event was bumped because of the L.A. postponement and difficulty in securing a venue. "The search [for a venue] has been compared to George W. Bush's quest for Weapons of Mass destruction in Iraq," the note reads. "However, we have made significant progress over the past two weeks and will be announcing details very soon."

In early June, promoters moved the Matt Groening-curated ATP L.A. shows from June 20-22nd to September 26-28th citing slow ticket sales. So far, the only bands confirmed to play the rescheduled L.A. festival are the Magic Band, the Boredoms, Mission of Burma, Throwing Muses, the Danielson Famile and the Black Heart Procession.
