On the verge of releasing their major-label debut, Seattle indie darlings Death Cab for Cutie are readying a seven-week North American tour, to launch on October 3rd in Vancouver. Plans, the follow-up to their breakthrough album, Transatlanticism, is due on August 30th.

"I get really happy in the studio. Four years ago, I would have been totally happy to never play another show," guitarist Chris Walla, who produced both Transatlanticism and Plans, told Rolling Stone. "But now I think they feed off each other. Rock shows are like primary colors, big and bold."

Fresh off of Lollapalooza in Chicago, the band will next head to Japan's Summer Sonic festival (August 13th and 14th), to be followed by a sold-out show at New York's Central Park Summerstage on the 18th and the Austin City Limits Festival on September 24th. Tickets for most dates go on sale on August 12th or 13th, with a limited number of presale tickets being released this Wednesday on Death Cab's official Web site, deathcabforcutie.com. Ethereal Canadian pop band Stars will open for the second leg of the tour, from October 21st through the November 18th finale in Seattle.

The first single off of Plans, the melodic "Soul Meets Body," is currently available through online music services.
