Son Volt has completed their forthcoming album and will hit the road on April 14 to preview the new material.|

The alternative country band, which arose from the ashes of the seminal roots rock group Uncle Tupelo following their 1994 split, recorded the still untitled project at lead singer/songwriter Jay Farrar's home studio in St. Louis.

This project is Son Volt's third release on Warner Bros. It follows 1995's Trace and 1997's Straightaways, the latter which generated the hit "Drown."

Son Volt will begin their tour on April 14 in Oklahoma City at Will Rogers Theater. They will then hit towns in Texas and the Deep South, including Lafayette, La., Austin, Texas, and Oxford, Miss.

Following the release of the album, Son Volt will embark on what their label spokesman calls a "full-scale worldwide tour." In the past, Son Volt has journeyed across North America numerous times and has performed in Europe. Now, they will hopefully also play to crowds in Japan and Australia. (Ari Bendersky)
