Shout Out Louds

Hot Swedish band

You Know Them From Your hipster friends' iPods, where the Swedish quintet's "Very Loud" is planted firmly on Garage Pop playlists.

The Breakthrough The Shout Out Louds' U.S. debut, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff (due May 24th), is a blast of neo-New Wave sweetness, setting singer-guitarist Adam Olenius' lovelorn croak over keyboard-driven rave-ups, adrenalized Strokes guitars and even some shambling alt-country. "We wanted our album to be naive in a good way -- very fast and energetic," says Olenius. "We tried not to think a lot."

Woodshedding Olenius formed SOL with two high school buddies in 2000, after years of soaking up classic American and English bands. The group is unabashed about its beginnings as a drummerless threesome practicing in a drafty basement. "Even doing covers was too complicated at first," says Olenius. "We knew two chords and had a crappy drum machine with two styles: bossa nova and something like 'pop-rock sixteenths.' The bossa nova was really good, actually."
