Crow & Co. Rock Against Breast Cancer

Female artists band together for breast cancer concert

Posted Sep 14, 2000 12:00 AM

It's a lineup that would sell out, if only tickets were available. On Oct. 12, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Heart , Amy Grant, Cyndi Lauper and Wynonna Judd will play the historic Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, a venue that holds slightly over 2,000 people. But instead of the venue's usual intimate audience setting, these musicians and others will be playing to a camera crew, as the performance is being taped for a program to be aired on the Lifetime cable channel later that month.

Called Women Rock!: Girls & Guitars, the show is geared to raise awareness about the fight against breast cancer, a cause the Lifetime "channel for women" has already dedicated much programming towards by partnering with both the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations and the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NABCO and NBCC, respectively). The channel plans to provide extensive coverage and programming on breast cancer throughout the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, culminating with Women Rock!, which will find the performers on the bill (and those to be added later) collaborating on various songs.

The two-hour special will air on Lifetime Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
