A rule of thumb: the faster Shaggy's music gets, the better it is. His ballads can be as predictable as the ending of an episode of Scooby-Doo. But bump up the tempos and Shaggy turns into the mad scientist of pop reggae, combining unstoppable rhythms, his growly voice and random sonic flubber. On Lucky Day, the inspired single "Hey Sexy Lady" employs a tango rhythm in a boombastic tale of hearing, through thin walls, the neighbors getting busy -- setting up the unusual situation where the verses are complaining about the choruses. The songs here have a wide range of quality (and tempos), but the other keeper is "Hookie Jookie," which provides advice on how to get away with an affair: Wash up with name-brand soap before you come home.
