The power-pop trio released their sophomore album, Feeling Strangely Fine (MCA), on March 24, which debuted at No. 105 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart with sales of 13,000 albums.
The band's first single, "Closing Time" is currently burning up Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart, where it will land at No. 1 this week; it will also make its mark at No. 3 on the "Modern Rock" chart. Semisonic recently submitted a video for "Closing Time," which was directed by Chris Appelbaum (Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Better Than Ezra) to MTV and is awaiting word when it will air.
Semisonic formed following the break-up of Trip Shakespeare, which included singer/guitarist Dan Wilson and bassist John Munson. The two recruited drummer Jacob Slichter in 1995 shortly before the trio released an EP titled Pleasure. Semisonic released its first album, Great Divide, in 1996 to critical acclaim.
The group embarks on a North American tour on April 17 in Vancouver. (Ari Bendersky)
