First up, for pretentious die hard metal fans, this album won't quite cut it for you and for more mainstream rock/pop fans, the same applies, but for those of you, like myself, who can happily stand with one foot in either camp, this album rocks. Having only heard the first single "Ladies and Gentlemen" prior to listening to the album, I was expecting a bit of Korn wannabe vibe but was pleasantly surprised to find a mixture of metal and mainstream throughout the album. Basically half the tracks sound like they come straight from the POD and Papa Roach recording studio, and the other half have a very Nickelback or 3 Doors Down feel to them, with a hint of Blink 182 and Vertical Horizon (anybody remember them?) thrown in. So if none of those bands are your cup of tea, forget about this album, otherwise, stay tuned.
Blood Stained Love Story is a blend of songs with attitude and hardness including "Ladies and Gentleman" and "King Of the Stereo" mixed with more radio friendly soft edged tracks, such as "Never Gonna Change" and "Starting Over". Highlight track for me is "Going Under", a catchy melodic rock ballad that is very easy to listen to, despite it sounding like a soundtrack for a Drew Barrymore or Hugh Grant film. The beauty of this album is that it mixes great melodic tunes with a hint of grunt. There are no real cringe moments, either lyrically or melodically, and best of all, lead singer Josey Scott's vocals have a clarity that allow you to understand everything being sung on the album (what are they thinking?) There will be critics who say there's nothing too original about this album, but hey, who cares. Sure, it's a safe album and won't change your life, but if you're looking for good solid alternative metal sound, Saliva do it well on this album.

The lead singer of Saliva is so unattractive and music so broad and simplistic that the best way to take this music is under the influence.
