Wainwright Wants iTunes

Four new songs available next week

After breaking his third album in half and releasing Want One last fall, Rufus Wainwright planned to get the topical Want Two out before this year's presidential election. "It tries to tackle some of the earthly troubles that we're in right now," he told Rolling Stone in February. "And I'd hate for the Democrats to win the election, and then have that sound weird."

Rather than a brick-and-mortar release, Wainwright is going online with Want Two. On June 29th, he'll release the four-song EP, Waiting for a Want, exclusively through the iTunes Music Store. In addition to the four songs -- "Gay Messiah," "The Love Affair," "The Art Teacher" and "Waiting for a Dream" -- Wainwright will make downloadable album art available through rufuswainwright.com.

Wainwright's first Want record was issued by Dreamworks Records, his label of six years. But since the album's release, Dreamworks was dissolved, and its roster incorporated into the Universal Music Group.

Wainwright plans to release another collection of Want Two songs, which he characterizes as "a bit darker" and "more operatic" than those of its predecessor, this fall.
