Album Reviews
It doesn't take long into A Bothered Mind to sense that R.L. Burnside, the wise old voice of Mississippi hill-country blues, has visited this chicken shack before. The set starts with some straight-up traditional blues -- the growling "See What My Buddy Done" -- but around track four, the legend starts getting that crossover itch again, delivering so-so tunes with rapper Lyrics Born and Kid Rock. The several pieces featuring his touring band, particularly "Stole My Check," and equally boisterous tracks featuring slide guitarist Kenny Brown make you wish Burnside wouldn't let his bothered mind stray so far from the blues.
