Album Reviews
Seamlessly linking smatterings of surf guitar, punk rock brashness and always a few surprises, psychobilly preacher James C. Heath is intent on proving the fallacy and artifice of genre distinctions within rock & roll. And in typical fashion, the good Reverend does so with stellar fretwork, songs about whiskey 'n' women, a few nods to faithful bass-slinging sidekick Jimbo Wallace, and no short supply of tongue-in-cheek humor. Lucky 7 isn't quite the romp of the Reverend's 2000 offering Spend a Night in the Box, undoubtedly his best effort since his early Sub Pop albums, but still, the music seldom misses its mark (even if the humor occasionally does). Can I get a Hallelujah?
