Ray Davies was forced to miss last night's Tibet House benefit concert in New York City as he continues to recover from a January shooting in New Orleans.

Davies was shot during a robbery on January 4th after he gave chase to a thief who snatched a purse belonging to a female companion. Davies was treated and released from the Medical Center of Louisiana and initial reports suggested a quick recovery. But, according to a statement on Davies' official Web site, "the injuries were more serious than originally broadcast and Ray is still undergoing treatment."

The statement says that Davies "is hoping to return to the U.K. soon," where he's scheduled to play some concerts in April.

Prior to the shooting, Davies had been at work on a long-awaited solo album that he's been recording with his touring band.
