Somebody has convinced Ramblin' Jack Elliott, who is surely one of America's greatest living folksingers, to get very, very drunk and record an album with some people who sound like the dregs of Nashville's studio musicians. The whole package is an affront to one's sensibilities, from Arlo "Guru" Guthrie's cutely patronizing liner notes to the embarrassing little "psychedelic" interludes scattered here and there, and one gets the distinct impression that Ramblin' Jack is being cruelly mocked. A very ugly record. (RS 60)
