VERY INTERESTING ... BUT STUPID

Laugh-In's Ruth Buzzi socks it to the Presidents of the U.S.A.

The standard "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome ..." concert intro apparently isn't quirky enough for the Presidents of the United States of America. So starting in a few weeks, the Seattle-based band will reinforce its offbeat image by taking the stage to a laughter-filled introduction that will be this week recorded by Ruth Buzzi, a veteran of the late-'60s, early-'70s comedy show "Laugh-In." The Presidents were first introduced by Buzzi when they performed on the "Rosie O'Donnell show on President's Day, and decided they wanted to take along her taped voice on their current tour. Since obtaining the rights from the TV show would have been expensive, the group did the next best thing and hired the '60s star to recreate her 12-second, laugh-filled introduction in the studio. In other Presidential news, the band just finished recording the title track to the live-action Disney film "George of the Jungle" (due this summer) with producer Don Was. The group's latest single, "Volcano," will be on the soundtrack to Twentieth Century Fox disaster film "Volcano," which is set for release this fall.
