Bentley Bassist Breaks Back

Bentley Bassist Breaks Back

Posted Aug 21, 1997 12:00 AM

Former Pop Will Eat Itself bassist Richard Marsh was seriously injured last week while shooting a video for his new hip-hop band, Bentley Rhythm Ace.

England's New Music Express reports the Birmingham-based musician broke his back while parachuting as part of a sequence for the video for "Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out," the latest single from the flamboyant dance-club duo. Marsh was only 10 feet from a perfect landing (after free-falling 7,000 feet) when a sudden gust of wind flipped him over and sent him hurling to the ground, landing directly on his back. "It was such a great experience, it's almost worth the pain," Marsh told NME.

Doctors predict a complete recovery, but have ordered Marsh to rest for at least three months, forcing Bentley Rhythm Ace to cancel several planned concert appearances. (SH)
