Album Reviews
Pete Yorn's first two records had their moments, but mostly suggested a folkier, less interesting Evan Dando: handsome guy with a handsomer, bummed-out voice but not much to say, and tunes that wore out their mildly catchy charm with a quickness. With help from producers Butch Walker and Don Fleming, Yorn's third studio album is an improvement: similarly laid-back but slightly meatier pop rock that stands up almost as often as it vagues out. Rootsy songs like "Alive" match prettiness with better-defined melodies, and cuts like the falsetto-laden "For Us" rock spryly. But underwriting is Yorn's modus operandi--pretty though they are, Nightcrawler's hazy songs have a slack sound and little personality. It's supposedly Yorn's "storytelling" record, but only die-hards will want to bother figuring out what he's going on about.

I am an AVID Pete Yorn fan, but something about this album just doesn't suit. I will agree that it grows on you the more you listen to it, but the only song that I loved straight off the bat was Ice Age, and it's still only one of the three songs I like. I really really really wanted to love this cd, but it just doesn't work for me. I would like remind the author of this review that Musicforthemorningafter was named one of the best new bands of 2001 by Rolling Stone Magazine, and saying that this is a step up is a travesty.

Inspired by personal drama and music legends, Pete Yorn’s first studio album in three years and the third in a trilogy that includes musicforthemorningafter and Day I Forgot is probably his best work yet. With songs like Vampyre, Alive and Maybe I’m Right the album has a very classic feel to it and at the same screams Pete Yorn. And there is For Us, a song with a great beat and even better lyrics featuring Dave Grohl of the “Foo Fighters” on the drums. My favorites on this album without a doubt have to be The Man and Broken Bottle, two beautiful tracks that you can put on repeat and forget about everything else. Undercover, a song that featured on the Spider-Man soundtrack is also a great addition to this already fantastic album.
This album is a must buy for anyone who loves Pete Yorn’s music! GO GET IT NOW!!

Nightcrawler is a must have for both new and old Pete Yorn fans. Some songs reminscent of his work on Musicforthemorning after, but others, like Vampyre show a newer, deeper side of Pete than we've seen before. Ice Age and For Us are some of the standouts on this record. Pete Yorn is definitely one of today's best singer songwriters - pick up this album to see why!

Excellent CD!! Standout tracks are Vampyre, The Man, and Ice Age, but its hard to pick a song that doesn't have you tapping your foot or just sitting back and listening to the lyrics. You should buy this CD!!!

Well RollingStone does need to actually know more about the artist they're reviewing instead of giving a shitty review. Actually Nightcrawler is an amazing album, it really grows on you the more you listen to it. Just when you think Yorn can't get better, he proves you wrong with this album. He's the real deal. A true musician. So go out and buy this album, or any other PY albums if you're unaware, you won'r regret it.

So this is a two-and-a-half star album and is a "slight improvement" on musicforthemorningafter? This Christian Whored (is that the spelling?) is clearly embarrassingly under-informed, and is apparently ignorant of the acclaim Pete Yorn's first album received - not least in Rolling Stone, who gave it four stars. And to dismiss Pete Yorn as a 'folkier, less interesting Evan Dando' is both lazy and ridiculous. I own the Lemonheads CDs, I like Evan Dando - or did - but compared to that of Pete Y, his body of work is so insubstantial as to have barely even existed. Still, if, like Christain, you represent the increasingly teen-pop-orientated, shadow-of-its-former-self Rolling Stone, it's probably smart to dismiss the performers who appeal to adults. Maybe he'll score a big interview with Fall Out Boy.

I don't know who Christian Hoard is, but I do know who Pete
Yorn is and the fact that Rolling Stone gave this release a
measley 2.5 stars tells me all I need to know about the
reviewer. Nasty comments about Pete's good looks
notwithstanding, this is a really, really strong effort. I'm
enjoying the heck out of it. RS had better develop a taste for
Pete's music. The guy is going to be around for a long, long
time. And that's good thing, esp. since we're being
innundated with so much pop crap these days (Justin,
Beyonce, Christina, Paris, Jessica, et al). Thank God there's
still somebody putting out music for people with an
appreciation for the real thing.

Pete Yorn has done it again. Nightcrawler is an excellent follow up to Musicforthemorningafter and Day I forgot. I feel like Nightcrawler is more versatile than its predecessors. Pete experiments with different sounds and genres. “For Us” has the great feel of a classic rock song, while “The Man” is a gentler, yet equally captivating song. “Georgia Boy” sounds like a song straight out of the 80’s with its pulsing synthesizers, until the twangy guitars join in, and create a unique sound that I’ve never really heard before. Despite the differences in style on this album, Pete is able to incorporate is own signature sound in each track. I’m also glad Pete put “Undercover” on the album. It’s definitely one of my favorites. I’d highly recommend this, because it is a great album from a great artist.
